Parkes Sparkles Christmas Campaign

In 2014, the Parkes Shire Council and the Parkes Chamber of Commerce developed the Parkes Sparkles Christmas Campaign in a bid to engage local businesses and encourage locals to shop locally.

Based on the concept of the “Hard to Find” booklet, the Parkes Sparkles Catalogue was the vehicle used to promote local businesses, allowing them the opportunity to place one free advertisement, and additional advertisements at a fee. The advertisement space was not limited to Parkes Chamber of Commerce members, with a view to encourage businesses to become members by promoting the benefits throughout the Campaign.

The campaign was launched by Parkes Shire Council and the Parkes Chamber of Commerce hosting a Marketing Workshop facilitated by Adloyalty. The Marketing Workshop aimed to promote the Catalogue, gain feedback from Parkes businesses with regard to the campaign concept and secure their involvement in terms of advertising.

The Catalogue was well received by the Parkes businesses, with a total of 61 businesses engaged and the pages quickly increased from 8 to 20 based on the number of advertisements sold.

The Parkes Sparkles Catalogue was distributed to Parkes primarily through the Parkes Champion Post. The Catalogue was also distributed to store owners in Parkes, and mail dropped throughout surrounding areas such as Canowindra, Cargo. Eugowra and Forbes.

Facebook was utilized as an additional promotional platform to benefit the advertisers. This included the posting of individual advertisements as they appeared in the Catalogue throughout the month of December. Businesses who advertised were also encouraged to LIKE the Parkes Sparkles Facebook page, and share relevant promotional content as an additional selling platform in the lead up to Christmas.
